Once there was a murder ( Once Upon a Crime ) is an American comedy film from the year 1992 . The film is a remake of the Italian Whodunit comedy Crimen . The ensemble film was directed by Eugene Levy . The film was also sold in German-speaking countries under the title Once upon a time there was a murder - 7 crooks and a dachshund .
action
The action revolves around a number of couples in Monte Carlo , Monaco . Augie Morosco is a gambling addict married to the rich, beautiful, and unfaithful Elena. He is in Monaco on business and plans to avoid the casino . However, he does not succeed in this and he squanders a fortune. Neil Schwary is an unsuccessful gamer who travels to Europe with his wife Marilyn to buy designer clothes. This is then tailored by him and sold as his product. He met Morosco on the train, who warned him not to enter the casino. Julian Peters is an unsuccessful actor who falls in love with the American Phoebe and wants to bring back a runaway dachshund belonging to the owner, the wealthy Madam Van Dougan, with her.
Madam Van Dougan is found murdered and Inspector Bonnard begins an investigation. The suspicious people try to get out of the affair with lies. Elena's affair, bouts of gambling addiction, and mutual jealousy make the suspects' situation more difficult. Eventually, however, the case can be resolved: the domestic workers murdered the employer and dismembered her. When the will is opened, the dachshund turns out to be the sole heir, and the inspector and his assistant run off to seek custody of the animal.

The film did not receive any critical acclaim. The film has a rate of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes (six reviews were evaluated). Janet Maslin wrote in a negative review in the New York Times that the film lacks humor and that the story with the dachshund should have been shortened. The lexicon of the international film judged: “Remake of an old crook comedy that would like to tie in with the tradition of the“ screwball comedy ”, but fatally distrusts its laws. Despite the top-class cast only loud and hectic. "
