Ann Way

Ann Way (born November 14, 1915 in Wiveliscombe , Somerset , England , † March 13, 1993 in London ) was a British actress .

Life

Way began her acting career in the mid-1950s. Initially, she played minor supporting roles in some feature films and guest roles in British television series. In the 1960s she accepted an engagement at the Dundee Repertory Theater in Dundee , which was the beginning of a theater career. She later appeared at the National Theater in London and played in William Shakespeare's Hamlet , Harold Pinter's No Man's Land , Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame , Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis and Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher .

During her film and television career, she worked several times with former Monty Python members. She first appeared in a guest role in John Cleese's television series Fawlty Towers , then had roles in Terry Gilliam's films Jabberwocky and Brazil , and in Clockwise, Mr. Stimpson with John Cleese in the lead role. She is best known to German-speaking audiences for her portrayal of Miss Smiff in the British television film Der kleine Lord , which is repeated every year at Christmas time.
