JSC Kogalymavia ( Russian Авиакомпания Когалымавиа Awiakompanija Kogalymawia , briefly Kolavia until May 2012 , from May 2012 Metrojet ) was a Russian airline based in Kogalym in the Autonomous Okrug of Khanty and Mansi in Western Siberia . The airline carried out its last regular scheduled flight in September 2011 and was then exclusively active in the charter business. In May 2012, the entire outer appearance of was Kolavia in Metrojet renamed. A Russian TUI subsidiary was temporarily involved in the deal until 2014 .

Kogalymavia started operations in May 1993. The main bases were the only just then completed Kogalym Airport and Surgut Airport , another hub insisted on the airport Domodedovo . In 2014, the company signed a merger agreement with Air Samara , which operated a small fleet of Beechcraft King Air 350i.
After the crash in the Sinai Peninsula on 31 October 2015 the consequent ban on flights of Russian airlines to Egypt and the flight ban in Turkey after the shooting down of a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 by the Turkish Air Force on 24 November 2015, the company lacked the two main target countries. Therefore, Kogalymavia ceased operations until further notice.
Destinations
Kogalymavia flew to destinations within Russia and neighboring countries, including Baku , Simferopol , Krasnodar , Mineralnyje Vody , Moscow and Surgut . From 2012 the company had limited itself to the charter business, which was mainly carried out from St. Petersburg and Tallinn.

Kogalymavia recorded several incidents in its history:
- On January 24, 2010, a TU-154M of the company, which was leased from the Iranian Taban Air, was badly damaged at Mashhad airport and had to be written off. There was no personal injury.
- On January 1, 2011, there was an accident with the Tupolev Tu-154B with the registration number RA-85588 at Surgut Airport . Shortly before the start of Flight 348 to Moscow, the aircraft caught fire on the tarmac. According to initial assumptions, the middle of the three engines had a defect. The machine was completely destroyed within 15 minutes. There were three fatalities and 43 injured. The investigation revealed an electrical fault as the cause of the fire.
- On October 31, 2015, an Airbus A321-231 with 217 passengers and seven crew members on board flight 9268 from Sharm el Sheik to St. Petersburg crashed about 20 minutes after take-off from the Sinai Peninsula . The aircraft was registered in Ireland with the registration EI-ETJ and leased from Metrojet . All inmates (224 people) were killed. The terrorist group " Islamic State " (IS) claims to be responsible for the crash. The investigators also assume that a bomb caused the crash. In January 2016, an Egypt Air technician was arrested who was suspected of having smuggled the bomb on board the plane together with two police officers and a baggage handler. It is the worst accident ever for an A320 family aircraft.
