Aviosuperficie Torraccia is the only airfield in the 60.57 square kilometer Republic of San Marino . According to German aviation law, the airfield would be called a special landing site . It is not recorded on the ICAO chart (no ICAO code ) nor on the Jeppesen VFR / GPS charts. The only sports airfield in the republic is located 6 km northeast of the capital San Marino in the municipality of Domagnano in the Torraccia district .

Location and operation

The square is just outside the Romagna CTR 1 control zone, 15 kilometers southwest of Rimini Airport . The runway is on a ridge and can only be used for landing in a northerly direction (RWY 34) due to the profile and the adjacent buildings. Take-offs generally take place in the opposite direction on the RWY 16. Since July 2012, after the expansion of the old 500 meter long grass runway, a runway length of 650 meters has been available. A further extension to 950 meters is in the planning stage and is currently being discussed as part of the municipal building plan Piano Regolatore Generale Comunale (PRGC).

The use of the Aviosuperfici is regulated by a special law ( Decreto 8 agosto 2003 ). The responsible civil aviation authority of the Republic of San Marino is L'Autorità per l'aviazione Civile , it has largely adopted the regulations of the Italian civil aviation authority Ente Nazionale per l'Aviazione Civile . Light aircraft up to 5.7 t MTOW (so-called Echo class), helicopters and ultralight aircraft are permitted . The helipad , like the taxiways and the apron in the petrol station area, is paved.

The operator is the Aero Club San Marino, which also runs a flight school, the petrol station with mogas and avgas and a restaurant on the site. PPR is not mandatory. For arrivals and departures, however, Romagna Approach must be addressed so that you can fly through CTR .

Special features for use

Due to its location on a plateau, the approaches to the airfield are not always easy.

Aviosuperfici may only be used by pilots who:

  1. Have a valid pilot license,
  2. have already completed at least 5 take-offs and landings on Aviosuperfici,
  3. Have completed at least 5 take-offs and landings (regardless of the airport) within the last 90 days.

Note

In Italy there are numerous Aviosuperfici whose data are also not recorded on the ICAO chart (no ICAO identification) and also not on the Jeppesen VFR / GPS charts. However, the dates of these places are published on the website of the Italian aviation authority ENAC and can be viewed and downloaded there free of charge. Since these special landing sites in Italy and the only one in San Marino do not have an ICAO code, you must always enter “ZZZZ” in flight plans and then enter the appropriate airport name in the “RMK / DEP” or “RMK / DEST” field.
