Awaiting Dawn is a German progressive metal band from the Rhein-Main area , which was founded in 2006.
history
Awaiting Dawn was founded in 2006 as the successor to the metal band Coleslaw and at that time was based in the Middle Rhine Valley. The line-up originally consisted of Christoph Krämer (vocals), Matthias Platz (guitar), Benjamin Reiter (guitar), Maik Seckler (bass) and Felix Benz (drums). The first appearances and the recording of a demo ( The Prisoner ) took place in 2007.
In mid-2008, the band separated from Christoph Krämer, and Benjamin Reiter took over the lead vocals. After that, the band initially acted as a foursome and recorded an EP with three songs ( Changing Days ), which they released on their own. After a long search for a keyboard player, Peter Schnur joined the band in 2011. This was followed by a phase in which new songs were written and the style was fine-tuned, as well as regular appearances, mainly in the Rhine-Main area. At the end of 2012 Matthias Platz left the band with Wolfgang Schneider as the subsequent guitarist in 2013.
Between 2015 and 2016 the debut album Leave No Trace was recorded , which was produced by Markus Teske from Red Circuit , who is known, among other things, for the production of the albums by German progressive metal great Vanden Plas . A video clip for the song The Bountiful Colors of Black was released on August 29, 2016. Leave No Trace was released on February 17, 2017 via Castle Road Records.
In August 2017, the departure of Wolfgang Schneider became known, who wanted to focus on his involvement with The Wolfwalk Experience . His successor was Fabian Steeg, who already supported the band in the studio and at concerts.
style
In their style description, the band emphasizes great dynamic contrasts, melancholy and various influences from rock and metal, classical music and jazz as well as frequent changes in tempo and meter. Trademarks are innovative and powerful guitar riffs in often alternating metrics and rhythms, polyphonic licks and solos, demanding bass riffs, complex to virtuoso drum and keyboard parts, heavy accents, but also very calm parts with clean guitars and clear piano sounds. The singing is clear to scratchy and moves in memorable lines.
Typically, in the classical way of thinking, different themes, motifs and elements in the songs are reused and edited in different ways.
The band's role models include Pain of Salvation , Porcupine Tree , Wolverine , Haken , Riverside , Yes , Pink Floyd and Opeth .
