Live and act
After studying German and history , Herzog was employed by the Federal Employment Agency . In 1981, Axel Herzog was given early retirement due to an eye condition that led to blindness . Using special language and reading software, he wrote and corrected his texts himself. He read the texts freely at book presentations and “readings”. Since the mid-1970s he has been producing works for the Saarländischer Rundfunk - including a permanent series of radio plays from 1991 to 2000 . At times he worked as a freelancer for the Saarbrücker Zeitung . Herzog was also the head of a cabaret , the Dudweiler Statt-Theater , for many years . Herzog suffered from Refsum's syndrome , a degenerative disease that ultimately led to his death.
