The Bärenbad Neustift (also called Bärnbad ) was an old bath house with a natural healing spring in Tyrol , Austria . Today it is an alpine inn . It is located in the Oberbergtal , a side valley of the Stubai Valley .

history

According to ancient traditions, the history of the bear bath began around 1500. Emperor Maximilian , who at that time liked to use the Oberbergtal for hunting trips , as was the custom at the time with dogs and drivers, once shot a bear only by the paw. Bears lived freely in the Stubai Valley until the beginning of the 17th century . He killed the animal a few days later. His paw , however, was already healed. In response to the Emperor's question, the driver, who had been sent out as a scout, reported that the bear had always held this paw in a spring . This was examined as best one could at the time, and it was found that it was rich in iron and minerals. The driver asked for a reason at the source and King Ferdinand granted him the right at Valpein in the Obern Perg to bring the water, known from ancient times as the Pernpadtn (as people wrote at the time), to his own property and there To build bath house for good [for everyone's benefit] . He was also given wood for heating. He undertook to hand over one pound of Perner (12 Kreuzer) annually on St. Gallentag (October 16) and 2 chickens and 20 eggs to the Provostei (castle administration) Amras as interest on Easter . Around 1550 it was completely destroyed by a mudslide . In 1625 it was rebuilt a rifle shot (approx. 50 m) further above the water in a safe location. It is still there today, hardly changed.

The healing spring

The spring water is particularly earthy. Investigations have shown that it is very iron and mineral-rich . People from all over the world have used the healing power of water over the past centuries. Especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, the three springs (a sulfur , an iron and a mixed spring ) enjoyed a brisk influx. The water was fed in wooden pipes, while the bathers in the sitting or lying baths hoped for quick wound healing, better digestion or to get rid of their rheumatic complaints. However, the spa was only operated until 1958, as the flow of the spring to the house dried up.

today

In 1907 Thresel Falbesoner bought the Bärenbad and the historic house has been family-owned ever since. It is now run as the Alpengasthaus Alt Bärnbad .
