history

The place name comes from Dutch settlers who named the place after their place of origin Beerenklauw in the province of Gelderland .

Around 1350, the Brandenburg margraves , the brothers Ludwig V (also Ludwig the Elder) and Ludwig the Roman , enfeoffed the Count of Lindow as sons of the then German Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian for loyal service to the village of "Berenklawe". In the agricultural area of Bärenklau there were already shepherds around 1442.

Luise Henriette von Oranien , the wife of the Elector of Brandenburg, Friedrich Wilhelm, had a sheep farm and a dairy farm built in Behrenklaw and settled eight freemen . In addition, she had a chapel built in the shape of a regular hexagon based on the Dutch model at the entrance to this street in 1666.

Bear Claw developed into a flourishing domain in the 17th and 18th centuries . So the Royal War Ministry explained the place with the outworks Wendemark, Vehlefanz and the forest district Leegebruch 1832 to the Royal Remontedepot hogweed . Since the depot trained and looked after young horses until they were handed over to the army, it included numerous stables and farm buildings.

From 1920 onwards, more and more nurseries were settled and numerous new settlements emerged.
After the reunification , many farmers and gardeners sold their land. Many settlements such as the bear settlement , the bird settlement and the gardener settlement were mainly occupied by former Berliners.
