The Bärenklau Remontedepot was a royal Prussian military facility and administrative unit based in Bärenklau (today part of the municipality of Oberkrämer in the Oberhavel district , Brandenburg ). The main task of the 18 Prussian remonted depots (1905) was the training of horses for various uses in the army. Initially, however, the royal Prussian remonted depots also carried out administration and police duties in the associated outbuildings.

history

Remonts are three to four-year-old horses that have been placed in so-called remonted depots as a replacement for disused army horses and trained for their duties in the army. The remonte depots had the task of looking after and training the young horses bought for the army until they were handed over to the troops. The first remounted depot in Prussia was set up in Neuhof near Treptow an der Rega (today Trzebiatów in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship , Poland) in 1821 . In 1888 Prussia had 15 remonted depots with around 7,300 horses. In 1905 there were 18 remonted depots with 9550 horses. Most of the remonted depots of the Prussian army were in East and West Prussia, where horse breeding was practiced on a large scale.

In the area of today's Brandenburg there were a total of three remonted depots, besides Bärenklau the remontedepot Friedrichsaue and the remontedepot Kienitz . Two of these depots were closed again by 1832/3, so that Bärenklau was the only such facility in Brandenburg from 1833. In 1824 the first remonted depot was set up in what was then the province of Brandenburg near Havelberg (today in the state of Saxony-Anhalt ). The remontedepot Havelberg was closed again in 1832 because of the frequent flooding of the horse pastures.

According to a notice in the official gazette of the Royal Government of Potsdam and the City of Berlin on July 27, 1832, the Oberamtmann Kienitz left the general lease of the offices of Oranienburg and Vehlefanz that year . The Vehlefanz Office was dissolved and the police and administrative tasks were transferred to the Oranienburg Office.

The Prussian War Ministry took advantage of the expiry of the lease for the Vehlefanz Office and the dissolution of this office and in 1832 leased some farms, meadows and forest areas from the Oranienburg Domain Office and converted them into a remonted depot based in Bärenklau. The Bärenklau Remontedepot was set up by the Royal War Ministry for an initial 530 remonts , and around 1910 it accommodated 700 remonts. The Bärenklau remonted depot included (status 1843):

  • Brieselang (today a municipality in the Havelland district). Only the dairy was part of the Bärenklau Remontedepot. The village was administered by the Vehlefanz Office until 1832, after which the Spandau Office was administered.
  • Klein-Ziethen (1817: Amtsvorwerk and Gut ) (today a place to live in the Neu-Vehlefanz district of the municipality of Oberkrämer). The Vorwerk, including the brickworks, was managed by the Bärenklau Remontedepot from 1832 to 1872.
  • Lee break . In 1833 the remontedepot administration laid out a Vorwerk and set up a sub- forestry .
  • Vehlefanz (1817: village and official seat ) (today part of the municipality of Oberkrämer ). In 1832 the Vorwerk was handed over to the administration of the Bärenklau Remontedepot.
  • Turning mark . The Vorwerk was laid out before 1816 in the area of the Office of Oranienburg. The Bärenklau Remontedepot was opened in 1832.
  • Wolfslake . Here the sheep farm and the jug belonged to the Bärenklau remontedepot.

According to the contract concluded on January 25, 1832 between the War Ministry and the Oranienburg Office, the Remontedepot was completely removed from the administration of the Office and transferred to the administration of the Remontedepot. However, changes in the substance could only be carried out with royal approval. From "Trinitatis 1832" (= June 17, 1832) onwards, the War Ministry paid the Oranienburg office a lease of 5541 thalers for leasing these lands for an indefinite period. The Bärenklau remontedepot was closed in 1921 and the goods were relocated.
