The sub - forestry department is a sub-authority of the forest administration . It is responsible for the care of the forest areas in the Unterforstrevier and is subordinate to a forestry , a higher forest authority that belongs to a forest office . The head of the Unterforsterei is called Unterforster . The main tasks are to ensure the special protective and recreational functions of the forest as well as afforestation . The forest is only managed under the direction of the forester above.

Germany

In Germany there are no longer sub-foresters. The forest districts and forest districts are seldom further divided. The further hierarchical levels of the forest administration structure can have different names. The Saalforste districts, for example, are subdivided into a total of 70 districts , which are identified by a sequential number but also have names.

Prussia

In the Kingdom of Prussia , a royal official ( Unterforster ) was in charge of the Unterforsterei ( Heideläuferei ) . The "Heideläufer" ("walking forester") was able to look after 600–800 hectares of contiguous forest and over 250 hectares of scattered wood. The sub-forestry consisted of the house and up to a few farm buildings.

Poland-Lithuania

In the Unterforstei lived a forester ( Strashnik ) who had to be Schlachzizen or from the nobility ( Poland-Lithuania ). Several hunters stood under him . The sub-forester was responsible for every event that was brought to the forester , that a tree was felled in the forest, that a fire had broken out there or that an Auer was killed.

Lithuania

The sub - forestry department (lit. Eiguva ) in Lithuania is a sub-authority of a forestry department ( girininkija ), this one of a chief forestry department (lit. miškų urėdija ). The average forest area in the individual Lithuanian forest offices varies from 900 hectares (in the Curonian Spit National Park ) to 4,700 hectares (e.g. in the Radviliškis chief forestry ). In 2009 there were from 5 (in the Radviliškis Chief Forestry ) to 31 sub- forestry offices (e.g., in the Ukmergė Chief Forestry ). In January 2007, there were from 12 (in the Kupiškis chief forestry ) to 41 sub-forestry centers (in the Panevėžys chief forestry ) in one chief forestry department .

In 1919 945 sub-foresters were established. In 1922 there were 2,898 sub-foresters with a size of 100 to 1,000 hectares and more. In Soviet Lithuania , 180 forestry departments were divided into 2,340 sub-forestry departments (as of 1945). The average sub-forestry size could be around 580 hectares. In 2006 there were 1,001 sub-foresters (the average size: 1,100 hectares), the number decreased by 141 (compared to 2005). In 2009 the number fell from 875 to 628 sub-foresters. In 2009 the average sub-forestry size was 1,700 hectares.
