Böllinger mill

The Böllinger Mühle is a former mill in the Neckargartach district of Heilbronn . The mill was first mentioned in the 13th century and was part of the village of Böllingen , which, however, went down to the mill and the Altböllinger Hof by the early 17th century . The miller's trade was practiced there until around 1970.

The mill at Böllinger Bach (formerly Biberach ) takes its name from the former settlement of Böllingen , which was mentioned as early as the 8th century. In the 13th century, the Böllinger mill belonged to the Wimpfen monastery . From 1390 the mill belonged to the Katharinenspital in Heilbronn . At the beginning of the 17th century, the Böllinger mill was the only remaining part of the village of Böllingen, along with the Altböllinger Hof .

The mill was mentioned in the Thirty Years' War , when the margravial troops, defeated in the battle of Wimpfen , who were besieged by Tilly from the north and west, were trapped in the east by the Neckar and in the south by the high water Böllinger Bach. The margrave had thought of no escape route for his troops, presumably out of certainty of victory. Only a single bridge at the Böllinger Mühle led over the Böllinger Bach, so that those fleeing stuck here, were overtaken by Tilly's cavalry and massacred. According to some sources, by the evening there should have been a total of around 5,000 deaths, around 4,000 of them on the battlefield and 600 in the surrounding area.

From 1803 to the 1960s / 1970s, the operation of the Böllinger Mühle was continued and expanded. The Leinbach was regulated in favor of the Mühlkanal.

In the 19th century, the flour mill had four gears. In the 1970s, when the Böllinger Hof and thus the mill belonged to the city of Heilbronn and were leased to the Süddeutsche Zuckerfabrik, it was said: “The former mill is out of order”. The main building of the Böllinger Mühle burned down in the second half of the 20th century.

description

The main mill building consisted of two building parts: The first part of the building was a two-story, six window axes wide, gable-independent building with a crooked hipped roof . The second part of the building is an eaves wing attached to the left side of the gable-end structure that survived the fire. The remaining remains of the Böllinger mill such as the listed outbuildings, the left wing of the main mill building, the mill canal and the mill property are considered to be cultural monuments .
