Bülent İplikçioğlu

Bülent İplikçioğlu (* 1952 in Afyon ) is a Turkish ancient historian and epigraphist .

Life

İplikçioğlu studied history, ancient history, classical philology and classical archeology at the Universities of Ankara and Vienna from 1970 to 1982 . In Vienna he was with a thesis on "The representatives of the senatorial Empire Service in Asia to Diocletian in the mirror of the Ephesian inscriptions" 1982 PhD . Until 1984 he was university assistant at the chair for ancient history at the University of Ankara, from 1984 to 1986 assistant professor at the department for ancient history at Marmara University in Istanbul, where he qualified as a professor in 1986 and was appointed professor for ancient history in 1992 .

İplikçioğlu is mainly concerned with the history and epigraphy of ancient Asia Minor . From 1976 to 1991 he took part as an epigraphist in the excavations of the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Ephesus and has been carrying out his own epigraphic projects in southwest Turkey ( western Pamphylia and northern and eastern Lycia ) since 1989 within the framework of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

He is a member of the German and Austrian Archaeological Institutes. Between 1984 and 2006, head of the Department of Ancient History at Marmara University, İplikçioğlu will continue his lectures and seminars on Greco-Roman antiquity, the history of Asia Minor in the Hellenistic-Roman period, Greek epigraphy in Asia Minor and the methodology of the ancients History as well as his supervision of master's and doctoral theses at the University of Ankara.
