The kkStB 79 was a support tender locomotive series of the Austrian k.k. State railways kkStB, whose locomotives were originally procured for the Arlbergbahn .
When suitable locomotives were needed for the recently completed Arlbergbahn, the idea of a competition such as that for the first Semmering locomotives in 1851 was taken up again. There was an invitation to tender in which the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik , the Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf and Krauss in Munich participated. The Krauss locomotives were classified as series kkStB 78 , the Neustädter machines were kkStB 76 .01-04. The two Floridsdorf machines finally formed the 79 series . These locomotives with Klose supporting tenders , delivered in 1884/85, had partly internal, partly external frames and internal controls .
On the Arlberg, however, the 73 series finally prevailed.
After the First World War , only the 79.02 was left, which came to the BBÖ and was retired in 1926.
