history

Founded in 1986

BreDo was founded in 1986 as an independent dock operating company of the parent company Seebeckwerft AG and four other Bremerhaven entrepreneurs as shareholders and operated the dock and repair business at the end of the fishing port.

Bankruptcy of Schichau Seebeckwerft (SSW) (1996)

After the bankruptcy of Schichau Seebeckwerft AG in 1996, BreDo began operating at the previous location in the fishing port. In addition to docking with typical work on the underwater hull, ship repairs, conversions and ship extensions were carried out. In addition, repair and conversion work was carried out on the main engines, auxiliary machines, propellers , shaft systems and rudder systems.

A total of around 300 employees worked at the shipyard, in addition to around 100 permanent employees, around 200 employees came from external companies. From October 2006, Bredo was a training company for construction mechanics and industrial mechanics.

Bredo Dry Docks at three locations

On February 1, 2017, Bredo agreed to work closely with the Mützelfeldtwerft in Cuxhaven's Amerikahafen and the Bremerhaven-based company German Dry Docks AG . It was further developed, and on January 1, 2018, the Mützelfeldtwerft was merged with Bredo within the shipyard alliance German Dry Docks Group . Bredo also took over the operational dock business of German Dry Docks . On June 1, 2018, the majority of employees switched from German Dry Docks AG to Bredo, which now operates under the name BREDO Dry Docks . The previous German Dry Docks then concentrated as a project company on special and large-scale projects. The group of companies also included the independent company MWB Marine Services , which together with Zeppelin Power Systems GmbH & Co KG (ZPS) acted as a drive specialist.

Bredo Dry Docks has up to ten floating and dry docks in Cuxhaven (Amerikahafen) and Bremerhaven (Kaiserhafen and Fischereihafen). Since 2016, the three shipyards have had the same shareholders, the Rönner and Petram families , who have played a decisive role in shaping the shipyard scene in Bremerhaven for years. At the beginning of 2019 there were around 250 employees at Bredo Dry Docks . In July 2019 Petram sold all of its shipbuilding activities in Bremerhaven (Bredo and German Dry Docks ) to the Rönner Group. At the beginning of 2020, Bredo Dry Docks GmbH will operate eight of its own floating docks with a total of around 280 employees at the three locations. In mid-July 2020, the covered floating dock 2 was transferred from Bremerhaven to the Mützelfeldwerft in Cuxhaven.
