The Norderney is a survey ship with home port on the East Frisian island of Norderney .
The ship was built under hull number 134 at the Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven . The keel was laid on July 10th, the launch in October 1974. The ship was completed in February 1975 and then handed over to the then North Water and Shipping Authority.
The ship was initially propelled by two MWM diesel engines (type: RHS 518). These were replaced in 2005 by two MTU diesel engines. The two motors act on two fixed propellers , with which the ship can reach a speed of 11 knots .
In 1984 a bow thruster was installed, in 1993 a boat davit was retrofitted to accommodate the Juist surveying dinghy .
commitment
The Norderney , which was specially designed for use in the Wadden Sea and can dry out without any problems due to its hull shape , is mainly used for fairway bearings in the area of the East Frisian Islands from the Osterems near Borkum to Minsener Oog and Jadebusen . The Juist surveying dinghy , which can be carried since the retrofitting of a davit in 1993 and which has a shallow draft of only 50 cm, is used to measure not only these fairway bearings, but also structures and higher plateaus.
From 1993 to 1999 the Norderney was used by the Wilhelmshaven Waterways and Shipping Office and since 2000 it has been subordinate to the Emden Waterways and Shipping Office .
