The BWK GmbH equity investment company (BWK) with headquarters in Stuttgart is a 1990 founded investment company with a portfolio of medium-sized family-owned businesses in Germany. The group is currently involved in 21 companies; the eight majority holdings are fully consolidated as subgroups .

The company has had a stable shareholder structure since it was founded. The largest shareholders in the company are the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) (40 percent) and the insurance group Wüstenrot & Württembergische (35 percent). The Hertie Foundation (15 percent) and the Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg Förderbank (L-Bank) (10 percent) hold further shares .

Investment criteria

The BWK sees itself as an “institutional family shareholder” who brings in equity and thus gives the partner company financial leeway for z. B. provides investments or growth strategies. There is no interference in day-to-day operations and is left to management. The portfolio companies are supported by advisory and supervisory boards. The financial lower limit for a company participation is set at an amount of 5 million euros. Areas of participation are growth financing, succession arrangements or changes of shareholders (MBO / MBI), whereby the BWK enters into majority and minority interests as well as silent partnerships. Target companies are mainly medium-sized companies that have a successful business model with a strong cash flow and a turnover of at least 8 to 10 million euros per year. The BWK does not have a specific industry focus, but invests across all industries in the German-speaking region (DA-CH).

Since it was founded, BWK has invested in over 70 investments. The portfolio included, for example, Bechtle AG (IT), Bizerba SE & Co. KG (mechanical engineering), Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG (automotive supplier) and Trumpf GmbH & Co. KG (mechanical engineering).

Supervisory board

The company's supervisory board consists of five people. The chairman of the committee is Rainer Neske, who is also chairman of the board of directors of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and Baden-Württembergische Bank. Other members are Christian Ricken (Member of the Board of Management of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg), Manfred Bernhard Pumbo (Head of Controlling / Risk Management Württembergische Versicherung AG), Bernd Knobloch (Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of the non-profit Hertie Foundation) and Johannes Heinloth (Member of the Board of Management of Landeskreditbank Baden-Württemberg-Förderbank).
