Babrak Wassa

Babrak Wassa (born June 21, 1947 in Ghazni , Afghanistan ) is a German composer , conductor and choir director who came to Germany from Afghanistan in 1980. In 2006 he composed the new national anthem of Afghanistan.

Life

Babrak Wassa studied in Moscow , a. a. at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory . As early as 1978 he was the general music director of the state radio and television in Afghanistan, which was then ruled by communists.

In Germany he established himself as a choir director with choirs in Cologne and in the Bergisches Land ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). He was the director of the choir of the Bergischer Sängerkreis. He has been a German citizen since 1996 . He lives in Rösrath .

The commission to compose the new national anthem for Afghanistan prompted various newspapers to write articles about Babrak Wassa, etc. a. the Kölner Stadtanzeiger , the FAZ , the world and the taz . Also, the WDR and the German wave reported on it and Harald Schmidt on his show Pssst ... .
