The Bacherloch is a gorge in the Allgäu Alps near Oberstdorf . The gorge begins at Einödsbach at a height of 1100  m and ends at 1900  m under steep rock faces. The Bacherloch opens only to the north, in the south the Linkerskopf ( 2459  m ), the Rotgundspitze ( 2486  m ), the Wilde Mann ( 2577  m ) and the Bockkarkopf ( 2609  m ) tower over the Bacherloch. In the east there are the Mädelegabel ( 2645  m ), the Trettachspitze ( 2595  m ) and the Wildengundkopf ( 2238  m ) and in the west the Habaum (approx. 1500  m , misleadingly referred to as "hay tree" on the Alpine Club map ) to the Linkerskopf. Due to the surrounding high and steep mountain slopes, large amounts of snow regularly collect in the Bacherloch, which are transported into the valley by avalanches. The resulting firn and ice fields often remain in place for several years, so that clearly recognizable annual layers are formed.
