The Einödsberg is a 1589  m high mountain in the Allgäu Alps . The small mountain lies on the west side of the Himmelschrofenzug below the Spätgundkopf .

Ascent

Unmarked paths lead from Birgsau and Einödsbach to the Hinteren Einödsbergalpe 50 meters below the summit. The summit of the Einödsberg is pathless. The mountain can be crossed in a four-hour circular hike. The path from Einödsbach over the steep southern flank is narrow and often slippery and therefore requires alpine experience, from Birgsau the path is not difficult. Another possible route leads to the Vorderen Einödsbergalpe, the Spätergundkopf and on to the Wildengundkopf and the Trettachspitze .

Einödsbergalpe

In 1482, the Einödsbergalpe was equipped with what is probably the oldest known Alpine order in the Allgäu. At the end of the 20th century, up to 2,000 sheep grazed it intensively and unhirted, which greatly reduced the biodiversity in the pasture area. Extensive young cattle have been kept since 2001. The regeneration of flora and fauna was recorded by the State Museum for Natural History in Karlsruhe as part of the Einödsberg project. The pasture area extends from the summit of the Einödsberg to the northeast to the slopes below the Schmalhorn and Spätgundkopf. The Hintere Einödsbergalpe is located in the saddle between Einödsberg and Spätergundkopf, the Vordere Einödsbergalpe is further up, up the slope towards Schmalhorn.
