The first documentary mention of Bachstedt took place in the year 876. From 1280 the Moritz monastery Naumburg expanded the Gut Bachstedt into a Vorwerk . This was acquired in 1467 by the Weimar Duke Wilhelm . During the Thirty Years' War , the fortified and manned outbuilding served as a place of refuge for the residents of the wider area. From the middle of the 17th century the estate belonged to the Großrudestedt office , which was part of the Duchy of Saxony-Eisenach from 1672 and came to Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach in 1741 . In 1827 the chamber property was administratively run as part of Markvippach. Since 1850 Bachstedt has belonged to the Weimar administrative district of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, to which it belonged until 1918.

In 1934 the estate was settled and 14 farms with 30 to 200 acres of land were established. Bachstedt also had its own school for the first time. The home style of the houses from the 1930s can only be seen in a few buildings today.
