Backstage ( English for Behind the Scenes ) is a Canadian youth - dramedy in docudrama style, which has been commissioned by DHX Media, by the production company Fresh TV. It premiered on March 18, 2016 on the Family Channel in Canada. The German-language first broadcast has been on the free TV station Disney Channel since December 19, 2016 .

The Disney Channel secured the broadcast rights for the series for several countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as well as for the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

The series accompanies a group of very talented young people as they go through the ups and downs that come with attending the Elite Keaton School of the Arts. For the Keaton students, a time begins of new friendships, unstoppable competitions, and defining moments that will guide them on their path to stardom.

Vanessa is possibly the most talented ballet dancer on the Keaton, and she knows this. Even if she's a newbie, she has a punch that has to be reckoned with. Vanessa is warm and funny, but her demeanor gets her into trouble at times.

Carly is an excellent ballet dancer, but she believes she is in the shadow of her best friend Vanessa. She is dutiful and disciplined and wants to draw attention to herself on her own.

Miles is a quiet, mysterious and a little shy boy. He prefers to stand in the background. With his incredible talent and great secret, Miles has made some great new friendships in the Keaton.

Alya is a self-taught singer and songwriter who has never been to the big city before . She is calm and shy. But the Keaton is the right place for Alya, where she learns to come out of her snail shell.

Jax is a DJ and musician at Keaton. He has a very confident demeanor but is not as good as he wants to be.

Bianca is an artist who believes she can do everything well. Thanks to her mother, she is in the music business and has been a professional singer for two years, which she lets everyone around her know.

Jenna is a peppy and energetic girl who is eager to be successful. She is a new ballet dancer on the Keaton. Jenna is often overshadowed by Vanessa and Carly, which is why she is ready to take any opportunity to be in the spotlight!

Sasha is a ballet dancer and is completing his sophomore year at Keaton. He's a gossip and makes people laugh around him. Sasha doesn't hold anything back and says it as it is.

Scarlett is a smart, confident, and incredibly good singer. She calls herself Starlett , and her voice is as big as her personality. Scarlett goes to the Keaton to become a star, and she's not going to be dissuaded from that goal. Kit is her little sister.

Kit is a confident and humble girl. She is a supportive friend who is not afraid to call things by their names. Kit is an extremely talented musician and DJ. She is Scarlett's little sister and how she adopts.

Denzel is a super talented and always colorfully dressed designer. Regardless of whether he is to design clothes or just a simple school folder, Denzel always delivers a perfect result.

Julie is the Keaton's school president. She is a costume designer, technical genius, filmmaker and artist. Julie is a free spirit, to say the least.

Park is the music teacher. In contrast to Helsweel, Park shows compassion for his students.

Helsweel is the dance teacher.

The German dubbing is created under the dialogue book by Kalpna Joshi , Josephine Schmidt (season 1) and Mario von Jascheroff (season 2) as well as under the dialogue direction by Michael Deffert and Tanja Schmitz by the dubbing company SDI Media Germany GmbH in Berlin (season 1) and Christa Kistner synchronous production in Potsdam (season 2).
