The Walldorf swimming lake is a mesotrophic still water north-east of the Walldorf district of the city of Mörfelden-Walldorf , Hesse .

geography

The approximately 17.3  hectare large quarry pond is located in the lower valley level at an altitude of 107  m above sea level. NN . Federal motorway 5 runs immediately to the west, federal road 44 to the east and Langener Waldsee to the east .

The lake has no superficial inlets and outlets. It gets its water mainly from precipitation, so it is a so-called sky pond . Only a small amount of groundwater seeps into it from the beds of the Gundbach brook to the north and the Wurzelbach brook that flows south .

In the south-west, an approximately 150 m long peninsula protrudes into the lake, on which the anglers' club house and a jetty are located.

history

The Walldorf bathing lake was originally a gravel pit and was acquired by the then still independent municipality of Walldorf after the end of gravel mining in 1970. In order to make the water attractive for bathing despite its proximity to the busy roads, 10,000 green plants were planted in the bank area.

today

The lake is used for fishing and swimming. The site is fenced and entry was required until 2018. In the southern area there is a sandy beach, sanitary facilities and a kiosk. The north bank is reed and known as the nudist area. After there was more and more immorality there in 2011, individual house bans were issued and the site was partially closed.

In 2019, the opportunity to swim at the Walldorf bathing lake was rededicated as the "Walldorf Bathing Area". From this it follows that there is no longer a water supervisory authority at the lake, unless otherwise indicated. Bathing is at your own risk. The background to this are questions of liability law and the reversal of the burden of proof. Since then, admission has been free, and parking is still charged.

The fish population includes carp, tench, bream, pike, pikeperch, perch, catfish, eel and various species of white fish.

Transport links

automobile

Due to its location directly on the B44, the bathing lake is only supposedly easy to reach by car. Since there is only a small parking lot in the south, parking the car is problematic. This is why roads and cycle paths are blocked, especially on weekends. The situation only seems to improve through towing operations. The city of Mörfelden-Walldorf explicitly advises you to come by bike if possible.

bicycle

The bathing lake can be reached by bike from all directions via forest or cycle paths. The city of Mörfelden-Walldorf explicitly advises you to come by bike.

Local public transport

The bathing lake can be reached from Walldorf station via the signposted "family route" via quiet forest paths along the Riedbahn . With the S7 there is a connection every half hour.
