The Walldorf (Hessen) Station (also Walldorf (Hess) ) is the station of the Hessian town Walldorf , a district of Mörfelden-Walldorf . It has three platform tracks and belongs to category 5 of DB Station & Service . The station is located at kilometer 66.3 of from Frankfurt to Mannheim leading Riedbahn .

history

On November 24, 1879, the Frankfurt - Goddelau branch of the old Riedbahn was put into operation by the Hessian Ludwigsbahn . This is the northern section of today's Riedbahn . Walldorf received a train station on this route . The station was put into operation under the name Walldorf and renamed Walldorf (Hesse) in 1904 . Today the name Walldorf (Hess.) Is used.

On August 29, 2001, the Walldorf fountain was inaugurated on the station forecourt . In this so-called “narrative fountain” made of bronze , the past and present should be reflected.

In 2002, the previous regional trains between Frankfurt and Goddelau - Erfelden (today: Riedstadt-Goddelau ) were integrated into the network of the Rhine-Main S-Bahn as the new S7 line .

Reception building

The station building of the Walldorf train station is a type building from 1903. It has neo-baroque shapes, the main building has two full floors on an L-shaped floor plan and another floor under a hipped roof . A single-storey extension in the south originally housed the station restaurant , while a similar extension in the north housed the waiting room . The reception building is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Today there is a kiosk and a bistro on the lower floor .

Rail transport

The Riedbahn from Frankfurt to Mannheim has been expanded for high-speed traffic up to 200 km / h. Long-distance trains travel through the station at a correspondingly high speed.

It has been served by the S-Bahn line S7 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Main since 2002 . Since the 2004/2005 timetable change in December 2004, the S7 has been running to the station every half hour (28/32 minutes). After Frankfurt (Main) main station and the journey takes about 15 minutes.

In addition to the S-Bahn, there is also an hourly regional express (RE 70) between Frankfurt and Mannheim. Until the 2017/2018 timetable change in December 2017, however, this train only stopped every two hours in Walldorf and neighboring Mörfelden.

Electric charging station and e-car sharing

On the north-west side of the station, citizens ( united in BERMeG ) installed one of nine publicly accessible charging stations in April 2018 , at which electric vehicles can be charged since then. An electric car can also be rented from this as part of the KOMEKAN pilot project funded by the State of Hesse.
