The association's headquarters are in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Mission statement

The BLHV is committed to family rural agriculture. The mission statement emphasizes the particular diversity of agriculture in southern Baden. The BLHV stands for a regional umbrella association that wants to represent all farmers and winegrowers with their different types of farms and production directions. The members of the BLHV are committed to active democratic decision-making and a common interest policy. Voluntary and democratic management structure should form the stable basis for this.

history

The establishment of the farmers' associations in what is now Baden-Württemberg is closely related to the division of the states of Baden, Württemberg and Hohenzollern into two zones of occupation.

The founding committee for the Baden Agricultural Main Association (BLHV) met in southern Baden on May 29, 1946, and its founding meeting took place on November 18 of the same year. This association had to be limited to the southern Baden part of the country, since northern Baden and northern Württemberg were also part of the American zone of occupation. South Württemberg and Hohenzollern were under French administration.

In May 1989, the delegates of the North Württemberg-Baden Association and the South Württemberg Farmers Association in Ulm decided to merge the two associations. The state capital Stuttgart was chosen as the headquarters . The BLHV decided against participating in the state farmers' association in Baden-Württemberg and continues to represent the agricultural sector in the southern Baden administrative district. The Badische Bauernschule , founded by BLHV in 1948 , was closed again in 2004.

In 2014, the association was able to move into its new administration building next to the Freiburg State Wine-growing Institute in the Wiehre district of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . Starting with the basement, the four-storey building is made entirely of Black Forest spruce and fir wood, which is protected by a glass shell. Around 100 people work in the building with a photovoltaic system and heat pump heating , built according to passive house standards .
