Lambert Schill

Lambert Schill (born July 7, 1888 in Merzhausen ; † December 13, 1976 there ) was a German farmer and politician ( center , BCSV , CDU ).

Life

He was born as the son of the farmer and Mayor of Merzhausen, Josef Schill. After attending primary school and the agricultural school in Freiburg, he worked in his parents' business from 1905, which he took over as a self-employed farmer in 1920. In 1912 he was elected to the district board of the Baden farmers' association . From 1914 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . For his services he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class as well as the Baden Medal of Merit in silver.

During the time of the Weimar Republic , Schill continued his work in agricultural associations. He was Vice President from 1922 to 1929 and President of the Baden Farmers' Association from 1929 to 1933. From 1921 to 1933 he was a member of the Baden Chamber of Agriculture and most recently served as its vice-president. As a member of the Center Party, he was a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden from 1921 to 1925 and from 1929 to 1933 . Here he mainly represented the interests of small farmers in Baden.

On November 22, 1931, the Badische Bauernschule was founded by several associations under Lambert Schill as the “Badische Bauernschule” association after a long renovation phase in Ittendorf Castle and inaugurated in the presence of Minister Andreas Hermes .

After the "takeover" of the National Socialists and the establishment of the Reichsnährstand , Schill was relieved of his offices. Subsequently he worked in the agricultural cooperative system. In autumn 1933 he was elected mayor of the Merzhausen community, but was not allowed to accept the election. After the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was imprisoned for several weeks.

After the Second World War , Schill was again active as a functionary in farmers' associations. In 1946 he became President of the Baden Chamber of Agriculture and was a founding member of the Baden Agricultural Main Association (BLHV) from 1946 to 1964 . From 1956 to 1964 he was also President of the Badischer Raiffeisenverband . In 1948 he was elected to the presidium of the German Farmers' Association . In addition, he was a member of the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbahn since 1952 .

Schill joined the BCSV at the end of 1945, from which the CDU Landesverband Südbaden emerged in 1947. In 1945 he was appointed mayor of the Merzhausen community. From November 1946 to May 1947 he was a member of the Advisory State Assembly of the State of Baden . On June 26, 1947, he was appointed Minister for Agriculture and Food in the government of the State of Baden led by President Leo Wohleb . His ministerial tasks included, above all, the fight against hunger and the establishment of a basic food supply. Due to the rejection of an agrarian reform law introduced by Wohleb, he resigned his office on January 27, 1948, but continued to run the business until July 14, 1948, when he was replaced by Alfons Kirchgässner .

He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1949 to 1957 from its first election . As a directly elected member of parliament, he represented the constituency of Lörrach .

Lambert Schill was married to Josefine Kälber since 1910. The marriage resulted in 14 children. Three of his sons died during World War II.
