Although the BCSV received an absolute majority of votes and mandates in the Baden state elections in 1947 (May 18), a coalition government was formed with the SPD on August 6, 1947 (Wohleb I cabinet), as the military government wanted the Social Democrats to participate put. A grand coalition including the Democratic Party failed because of the dispute over the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Due to differences in the question of land reform , the Social Democratic ministers resigned on December 27, 1947 and the Wohleb II cabinet took office on January 23, 1948 .
