Alfred Schühly

Alfred Egon Schühly (born February 14, 1889 in Karlsruhe , † March 9, 1977 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German lawyer and politician ( Center Party , BCSV , CDU ).

Life and work

After graduation Schühly took a degree in law and political science at the universities of Freiburg, Leipzig and Heidelberg on which he both state examination in 1911 and awarded the degree of Dr. jur. finished. He then entered the Baden civil service, worked in the internal administration and in 1920 was transferred to the Waldshut district office as a councilor . In 1927 he moved to the Baden Ministry of the Interior in Karlsruhe, where he was appointed Ministerialrat in 1932. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, he was demoted for political reasons and transferred as a judge to the Baden Administrative Court. Although he had never joined the NSDAP, from 1932 to 1944 he always remained involved in the training of civil servants through trainee courses and as a member of legal examination commissions and the legal examination office.

Schühly returned in 1945 as a ministerial advisor to the Baden Ministry of the Interior. In 1946/47 he was President of the Baden Administrative Court based in Freiburg. From 1947 to 1952 he served as Vice President, from 1952 to 1955 again as President of the Administrative Court. In 1946 he received a teaching position for administrative law at the University of Freiburg , which he carried out until the early 1970s. In addition, from 1955 to 1961 he was a lecturer at the Administrative College Speyer .

Political party

In 1927 Schühly became a member of the Center Party. After the Second World War , he joined the Baden Christian Social People's Party (BCSV), which later became the Baden regional association of the CDU.

Public offices

From June 26, 1947 to April 25, 1952, Schühly served as Minister of the Interior in the government of the state of Baden led by President Leo Wohleb . From March 18, 1952 until the founding of the state of Baden-Württemberg , he also assumed the office of Deputy President.
