State Secretariat Wohleb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The State Secretariat Wohleb was active in the state of (southern) Baden from December 3, 1946 to June 26, 1947 in an advisory capacity to the French military government . It did not yet have the full powers of an executive, but was merely a provisional government. It was not responsible to the Consultative National Assembly . However, it acted in close coordination with this and the French military government. The establishment of the State Secretariat was generally seen as a further step towards democracy.

The State Secretariat's predecessor was a directorate . The board of directors announced its resignation on November 22, 1946, since the consultative state assembly of the state of Baden was constituted on that day. The French military government approved the resignation on December 2, 1946 and on December 3, the Directorate was replaced by the State Secretariat, which consisted of 6 state secretaries and 4 state commissioners and whose president was Leo Wohleb.

The State Secretariat Wohleb resigned on May 10, 1947 with effect from May 17, since after the state elections on May 18, 1947, a government was to be formed on a parliamentary basis. Since the negotiations on the formation of a coalition government dragged on, the State Secretariat remained in office until August 6th and was then replaced by the Wohleb I cabinet .
