Paul-Ludwig Weinacht (born May 28, 1938 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German political scientist .

Professional career

After graduating from high school at the humanistic Berthold-Gymnasium in Freiburg (1957) and studying German, French, political science, philosophy and history at the universities of Freiburg , Munich and Paris, the first (1962) and second state examinations (1964) for the teaching profession took place at high schools. Weinacht received his doctorate summa cum laude in 1967 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Munich with a thesis on the word and conceptual history of the state supervised by Hans Maier . The work is still the basis of the articles on the term “state” in all known etymological dictionaries.

After working for the German Education Council and as a research assistant to Hans Maier, in 1971 he was offered a professorship in political science at the Freiburg University of Education . From 1977 he also represented Wilhelm Hennis' chair at the University of Freiburg. In 1979 he was offered the chair for didactics of social studies and political science at the University of Würzburg . Weinacht became a co-director of the Institute for Sociology, then the Institute for Political Science. Between 1988 and 1990 he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty III. Between 1990 and 1994 he was a member of the Senate of the University of Würzburg. In 1993 he was offered a chair for political theory at the University of Erfurt , which he refused. In 2003 he retired .

Research priorities

Weinacht's main research areas were political systems , the history of political concepts and ideas, educational policy, and the history of regional and political parties in southwest Germany . Management of publication projects for the State Center for Political Education Baden-Württemberg and the European Union . Obtaining and editing research articles on Montesquieu and the regional history of southwest Germany. Opinion surveys on young students immediately after German reunification , which the author also discussed in an article for the memorial by the historian Hellmut Diwald .
