Affoltern-Weier is the name of a train station in the Weier district of Affoltern im Emmental .

history

The station was opened on June 1, 1908 by the Ramsei-Sumiswald-Huttwil-Bahn (RSHB) with 735 m as the highest line station. Due to the location of the village center, it was only possible to connect the community to the Ramsei – Sumiswald – Huttwil route outside.

From 2004 to 2009 Affoltern-Weier was the terminus of the BLS operated S4 line of the Bern S-Bahn from the direction of Burgdorf . Since then, the municipality has only been served by a bus , but the route was still passable afterwards. The shortening was carried out for reasons of circulation, because one vehicle composition could be saved and at the same time the municipality of Affoltern was better developed with the bus line.

The economic development of the Weier district is related to the construction of the train station. The village existed before the construction of a few farm buildings, like the scattered settlements in the Emmental are normally constructed. In the municipality of Affoltern in Emmental, the Häusermoos station is 1.87 km away on the same route. Since 2014, Affoltern-Weier station has belonged to the newly founded Emmentalbahn GmbH , which took over the route from Sumiswald-Grünen to Huttwil.

The station was opened as a two-track system. Between the through track (now track 1) and the station building there was a siding that had a ramp at the goods shed. In 1970, a third, 162-meter-long through track (today track 2) was built on the side facing away from the station building. The siding by the building was removed around 2004 in connection with the raised platform on the through track. The siding (now platform 10) remained in the extension of the former siding.

The station only received entry signals after electrification around 1950, but daylight signals right from the start.

building

Lindenholz station on the Langenthal – Huttwil line; The station building corresponds to the unit type of the LHB and HWB

The Langenthal-Huttwil-Bahn (LHB), which was responsible for the construction and operation of the RSHB, did not simply adopt the unit type for the station buildings on the Ramsei – Huttwil line , as was the case with the stations on the LHB and Huttwil lines -Wolhusen-Bahn (HWB) was common. Instead, cooperation with the Association for Homeland Security was started. Due to the typical regional architectural style, this recommended corresponding drafts with a crooked roof , which were then implemented. The construction costs were around CHF 15,000.

Affoltern-Weier's two-and-a-half-storey, rectangular reception building faces the tracks with its crooked, double-axle front. The flat wooden goods shed is built on the eastern side of the eaves. Public toilets were added on the west side after a drinking water network had been set up by the community. In 1960 the offices were rebuilt. Between 1971 and 1973, the reception building was provided with an Eternit facade on the weather side. The building was never open to the public. Tickets could be sold through a window in the office.
