List of train stations in Poland |
The Bielsko-Biala Główna Railway Station (formerly Bielsko Central Station ) is the largest train station in the Polish town of Bielsko-Biala ( Bielsko-Biala ). The current station building was built in 1890 and has monument status (No. A-704/94 of June 3, 1994).
Building history and architecture
The Imperial and Royal Emperor Ferdinand's Northern Railway , whose main line connected Vienna with Cracow , built the branch to Bielitz in 1855 and extended it to Żywiec ( Saybusch ) in 1878 . She built the new station building after opening the lines to Cieszyn ( Teschen ) and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska in 1888 .
The building consists of three pavilions based on a design by the Bielitz architect Karl Schulz . The construction company of the Bielitz architect Karl Korn carried out the construction work.
During a thorough renovation of the building from 1997 to 2001, old polychrome jewelry came to light. The interesting details of the train station include frescoes in the main pavilion and a German-language inscription at the main entrance: KK PRIVILEGIRTE KAIS. FERD.-NORDBAHN and the roofing of the house platform .
In connection with the completion of the station, the five-kilometer-long Bielitz – Zigeunerwald electric railway was opened to traffic on December 11, 1895 as a convenient, contemporary connection that reached and crossed the city .
