Bjørnfjell ( North Sami : Bonjovárri , German word meaning Bärenberg ) also Bjørnfjellet is a 761  moh. high mountain in the Norwegian municipality of Narvik around 12 kilometers east of the city center, as well as the namesake of the scattered settlement at its foot . It is located in Fylke Nordland , about 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle .

The European route E10 has passed Bjørnfjell since 1992 . The highest point of Bjørnfjell is also on the stretch of this European route , at around 520 meters above sea level. The stretch of the European route at Bjørnfjell is not open all year round, but is occasionally closed for a short time in bad winter weather. Bjørnfjell is on the border with Sweden , where the next town Riksgränsen is on the Swedish side of the border . The border crossing there is one of the largest in Northern Norway and is very popular in this region for buying cheaper goods and alcohol in Sweden. During the German attack on Norway there was heavy fighting between German units and Norwegian armed forces in Bjørnfjell from April to June 1940 . Later, the German side set up a prisoner of war camp in Bjørnfjell , where 283 Yugoslav prisoners of war are said to have died.

The place Bjørnfjell located on the Ofotbanen , the railway line Narvik - Kiruna - Luleå , which he also received a rail connection.
