The Brixlegg station is a local transport station in Brixlegg on the Lower Inn Valley Railway (ÖBB course book route 300) from Kufstein via Wörgl to Innsbruck . It is served by around 70 trains daily.

history

In 1858 the railway line from Kufstein to Innsbruck was opened. On November 24, 1858, the first train, which was ceremoniously received at the railway stations on the line, drove from Innsbruck to Kufstein. For a long time, Brixlegg station was an important stop, also for long-distance traffic. Because the bridge was of great strategic importance during the Second World War , the train station and the nearby Inn Bridge in Brixlegg were targets of the Allied bombing raids towards the end of the war. Other significant events were the accident of 1964, when a freight train in the direction of Innsbruck derailed and completely damaged the western turnout head, and the accident in 1982, in which a freight train with two cars in the direction of Jesenice / Graz derailed and also caused property damage.

traffic

Brixlegg station is an important station in the Tyrol S-Bahn network . The S1 line serves him every hour in the direction of Kufstein and Innsbruck. Most of the Regional Express trains (REX) also stop at the station. Until the 2009/2010 timetable change, the OEC  164 “Kaiserin Elisabeth” from Salzburg to Zurich also stopped here . However, this has been discontinued and now no long-distance trains stop here. In the 2012/2013 timetable year, two OIC trains (to and from Graz), which replaced REX connections, stopped again. But these were also discontinued in the following timetable year due to insufficient utilization.

Furnishing

The Brixlegg station was under renovation, for which a total of 16 million euros was estimated.

He has had an island platform since October 2012. Therefore, both platform tracks are on the same platform.

In the course of the renovation work, a Park & Ride parking lot, a new lift and a new forecourt bus station were created. The converted station was opened on August 12, 2015. Since then, the station has no longer had a reception building; it is limited to a glass bus shelter and a covered forecourt for bus platform A. A new toilet facility has also been built.

To the east of the train station, in the direction of Wörgl, there is the “Rattenberger Loch”, the only “real” tunnel on the Lower Inn Valley Railway.
