ÖBB-EuroCity ( O-EC for short ; in timetable media also ÖBB-EC or OEC ) was a type of train for national and international long-distance traffic operated by the Austrian Federal Railways . It had existed since 2001 and, alongside the Intercity-Express, was the highest quality offer from ÖBB until the railjet was introduced . With the 2011/12 timetable change, this type of train was abolished. Some trains have been replaced by railjet, conventional international trains to EuroCity without any additions, the remaining domestic trains to ÖBB-InterCity .

Furnishing

ÖBB-EuroCity trains consisted of modernized wagons with new paintwork (side walls light gray NCS 2502 B, window band gray NCS 4502 B, aprons / end faces / bogies dark gray NCS 6502 B, roof and decorative stripes at floor height traffic red RAL 3020), which was the former Eurofima- Replaced C1 paintwork in pure orange-light gray. The UIC -Z type wagons and modular wagons , which were procured from 1977 to 1994, were used for reconditioning . The seat covers were replaced (1st class: black leather , 2nd class: dark blue velor ), sockets were installed near all seats, new tables were installed in the compartments and closed toilet systems were installed in most of the cars .

All ÖBB-EC trains met the EuroCity criteria (most of the ÖBB-EC trains, however, were purely domestic trains). In addition to modernized rolling stock, the trains also had to have air conditioning in all cars, first-class business cars with business compartments with four seats each ( rolling office ), on-site service in the first class , a dining car and a wheelchair-accessible car . In addition, the ÖBB-EuroCity 162 “Transalpin” drove a panorama car to Switzerland .

On the Western Railway, EuroCity and ÖBB-EuroCity drove with fewer stops and shorter travel times than InterCity and ÖBB-InterCity . The travel times of the ÖBB-EC trains on the southern runway largely corresponded to the InterCity trains. A special feature on the Southern Railway were early trains from Villach and Graz to Vienna and an evening train from Vienna to Villach. These two trains were accelerated throughout the section so that they could be used as ideal daytime connections. They could therefore be seen as the successor to the SuperCity trains (1991–1996). The connections to Switzerland were called ordinary EuroCity on the Swiss side.
