history
Chipley is on a railway line built in 1883 by the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad .
The route of the Amtrak-operated long-distance train Sunset Limited , which was introduced in 1971 and initially ran from Los Angeles to New Orleans , was extended in 1993 via Chipley to Jacksonville (later to Miami and Orlando ). However, after the effects of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, the line was shortened back to the original Los Angeles - New Orleans route. Since then, the only rail transport has consisted of goods transports, which are carried out by the railway company CSX Transportation .
