The Dürrröhrsdorf station is an operating point of the Kamenz – Pirna , Neustadt – Dürrröhrsdorf and Dürrröhrsdorf – Weißig-Bühlau railway lines in the municipality of Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach in Saxony. After the dismantling of facilities, the station is now only used for tourist traffic on the Pirna – Sebnitz route.

history

Dürrröhrsdorf station looking towards the exit to Neustadt (2015)

The Dürrröhrsdorf station was built in 1875 during the construction of the Kamenz – Pirna railway line. In 1877 the Neustadt – Dürrröhrsdorf railway reached the station. In 1908 the route from Weißig was added. There is little to be found in the literature about the construction of the train station. Presumably, after the construction of the Dürrröhrsdorf – Weißig railway line, it got its greatest expansion and its track plan in an island location .

In addition to the representative reception building with a length of about 50 meters and a width of about 15 meters, there was a house platform on the east and west side and a central platform in front of it . The length of these platforms was between 97 meters for track 4 and 236 meters for track 1 . In addition, there were two more bypass tracks in the western part of the station and one track to the loading street and the two-tier locomotive shed on the east side.

A goods shed stood at the end of the loading street, but it no longer exists today. There was also a loading ramp with loading gauge and a two-tier locomotive shed on the exit side towards Neustadt , with a coal shed in front of it. Locomotive sheds and coal sheds still stand today. At the entrance to Pirna was the water house, which still exists. There were also some ancillary and utility rooms.

In 1899 the station received two mechanical signal boxes at the ends of the station. Signal box 1 (later W1, today B1) was at the north head in the direction of Neustadt and Kamenz, signal box 3 (later W3, finally W2) was at the south head in the direction of Pirna. The dispatcher was located in the station building (signal box 2, lastly B2) and issued the commands for setting the points and signals via the station block. There was a turning point in the operations of the station after 1950, when the Dürrröhrsdorf – Weißig railway line was dismantled. Another turning point came in 1998 when passenger traffic on the route from Arnsdorf to Dürrröhrsdorf was discontinued. Since at the same time rail replacement traffic had to run on the Neustadt – Dürrröhrsdorf railway line due to the poor superstructure, the track system in the station was particularly bad at that time. The renovation of the line was accompanied by a redesign of the tracks at the Dürrröhrsdorf train station. On the east side only the track on the house platform was left, on the west side tracks 2 and 1 are still accessible. The tracks that were no longer needed were not expanded. However, they can no longer be navigated and disappear under the vegetation. In 2005 the goods shed was demolished. In 2006, DB Netz converted the control and safety systems to relay technology ; the guard interlocking W2 was closed, in the command interlocking B1 a control table of the type GS II DR was installed. Signals are only available on the tracks to be used. The station is no longer manned.

Platforms

The station had a total of four platforms. On the east side the house platform with a platform length of 178 meters and an intermediate platform in front on track 4 with a length of 92 meters. On the west side, the main platform was 207 meters long and the intermediate platform in front on track 1 was 236 meters long.

Today only the two house platforms remain. A transition to the intermediate platforms in front is no longer possible; an exit is only guaranteed at the south-eastern exit of the station.

Entry of a regional train from Arnsdorf into the Dürrröhrsdorf station (1991)

If the station was built on the basis of the Kamenz – Pirna railway, it was operationally used as a separation station for trains from Pirna in the directions to Neustadt in Saxony or Arnsdorf . In 1894, for example, four pairs of trains ran between Kamenz and Pirna through Dürrröhrsdorf, the timetable for 1925 already showed an alternation between Arnsdorf and Pirna and Neustadt to Pirna. Five pairs of trains drove through the station every day. The trains ran separately on the Dürrröhrsdorf – Weißig railway line. There were three pairs of trains running there in 1914 and three pairs of trains in 1925. In 1932 and 1939 there were still three pairs of trains.

In 1939 ten pairs of trains ran between Pirna and Dürrröhrsdorf, half of which went to Neustadt or Arnsdorf. After the Second World War , the Pirna - Neustadt and Dürrröhrsdorf - Arnsdorf routes were served. In 1946 there were four pairs of trains running on both routes, and in 1971 there were six pairs of trains each.

At the moment regional trains of the line RB71 of the Transdev Regio Ost in the direction of Pirna and Neustadt in Saxony and Sebnitz run every hour , on weekends every two hours. However, there is currently a rail replacement service.

Trivia

In the summer of 2016, the station served as the backdrop for the music video for the song “In Olomuc is Summer” by the Dresden “Jindrich Staidel Combo”.
