history

Ebern station in 1991 with the Deutsche Bundesbahn push-pull train

On October 24, 1895, operations began on the railway line from Breitengüßbach to Ebern, and on October 26, 1897, the line was extended to Maroldsweisach, 17 kilometers away . Due to the gravel works in Maroldsweisach and Voccawind, there was also extensive freight traffic on the route in addition to passenger traffic.

From the mid-1970s, the Deutsche Bundesbahn began to turn almost all passenger train connections from Bamberg in Ebern, as there was too little demand. From the beginning of the 1980s, only one pair of trains ran to Maroldsweisach. As of May 27, 1988, passenger traffic between Ebern and Maroldsweisach was discontinued and all trains now turned in Ebern. Freight traffic was stopped on November 21, 2001.

In 2004, extensive dismantling measures on the entire section of the route led to the separation of the actual Ebern station from the rest of the route. Thus, a new, single-track stop was built 700 meters south of the actual station . This has barrier-free access as well as parking spaces for cars and bicycles. The new stop was opened on September 13, 2004 and can still be found in this form today. Since then, Ebern station has been just one stop - just like all other stations on the route.

The Ebern stop has been part of the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association (VGN) since January 1, 2010 and can therefore be reached at the VGN tariff with VGN tickets.

From September 2004 to Easter 2011, regional trains operated by Deutsche Bahn ran daily at approximately 90-minute intervals from Ebern via Breitengüßbach to Bamberg .
