The Finse station is 1222.2  moh. the highest station in Northern Europe . It is located on the route of the Bergensbane from Oslo to Bergen in the Ulvik municipality on the northern edge of the Hardangervidda not far from the Hardangerjøkulen glacier . There are no permanent residents in the village of Finse, apart from the employees of the tourism companies.

It is around 300 km by train from Finse to Oslo and around 170 km to Bergen. There is a hotel next to the train station, one of the largest DNT huts in the country and the so-called Rallar Museum (German: Bahnarbeiter-Museum ), which provides information about the construction of the Bergen Railway. The Rallarvegen , the former supply route for the construction of the Bergen Railway, is a popular bicycle route and runs through Finse.

Until the opening of the Finsetunnel in 1993 there was a snow removal station for the route in Finse.

Others

In March 1979, parts of the science fiction film " Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back " were shot in Finse .

Finse also plays the plot of the crime novel The Norwegian Guest by Anne Holt .

Finse and the surrounding mountains also play a central role in the adventure novel The Blue Ice by Hammond Innes .
