The station Güntersberge is located on the Selketalbahn in the town of Güntersberge of city Harzgerode in resin in Saxony-Anhalt . Operationally, the station used to be a train station , now it is only a stopping point . The station building with baggage shed and waiting hall is a listed building .

location

It is located south of the city center of Güntersberge on Bahnhofstrasse . The Selketalstieg leads a little to the north .

Architecture and history

The section of the Selketalbahn between Straßberg and Stiege , where Güntersberge station is located, was put into operation in 1890. At that time, the station building including the extension was completed. Other details state that the two-storey reception building was built around 1910. The facade of the half-timbered building is characterized by a decorative framework. In addition to a baggage shed, the station has a one-storey waiting hall. There was already an inn there when the station opened . The landlord, who also sold tickets, lived with his family in the attic of the station.

While the station today has primarily a tourist function, at that time it was an important station for regional passenger traffic and a transhipment point for goods. There were two main tracks and a siding leading to the goods shed and loading ramp. A locomotive shed was built east of the station . There was also a water extraction point for locomotives at the station.

An extension took place in the 1930s. The station restaurant had taken care of the employees of a neighboring sawmill , and more and more tourists came.

After the Second World War , the Selketalbahn tracks were dismantled in this area from March to April 1946 as part of reparations to the Soviet Union . The station restaurant continued to operate and served to supply a neighboring machine-tractor station . The station building was transferred to VEB IOAG , which leased it to landlords. The first innkeepers after the war were Ella Börner and her brother-in-law until the early 1970s. After the Börner family, it was leased to the FDGB holiday service. He ran a café and snack bar here with Mrs. Bosse and Mrs. Waldheim. After the two retired, the restaurant business was stopped. The station then served as a residential building.

In order to be able to deliver coal for an existing plant in Silberhütte , the Deutsche Reichsbahn decided to close the gap in the railway line between Straßberg and Stiege. From 1983, rail operations were resumed , including with a roll stand . The station restaurant was reopened. The first landlord was now Andreas Schumann. A new annex for the toilets was built and further modifications were made. Schumann gave up in 1993 for economic reasons. The successor to VEB IOAG, Galfitc GmbH, initially used the station building as a warehouse. She had the roof re-covered. Rehabilitation measures were carried out, including partial gutting and draining of the foundation. Galfitc was unable to implement any other planned use due to bankruptcy.

The station building then stood empty for a long time and suffered damage from vandalism . In 2007 it was acquired by new operators and renovated over a year and a half. On December 20, 2008, the new station restaurant Zum Bahnhof opened . Since August 2010 there are two guest rooms.

In the local register of monuments , the station is listed as a monument under registration number 094 84949 .
