The Hashimoto Station ( Jap. 橋本駅 , Hashimoto-eki ) is a station on the Japanese island of Honshu . The major transportation hub is located in Kanagawa Prefecture in the Sagamihara City area . Here three railway lines meet.

Hashimoto is a separation station on the Yokohama Line , which runs from Hachiōji to Higashi-Kanagawa . From this the Sagami line branches off to Chigasaki . Both lines are operated by the JR East railway company. Hashimoto is also the western terminus of the Keiō Sagamihara line operated by Keiō Dentetsu to Chōfu .

On the Yokohama line, express trains run every 20 minutes from Hachiōji via Hashimoto and Yokohama to Sakuragichō . Local transport runs every ten minutes between Hachiōji and Yokohama, with frequent changes in Higashi-Kanagawa. Local trains run on the Sagami line every 15 minutes during the morning and evening rush hour, every 20 minutes during the day and every half hour late in the evening. During rush hour, individual trains run from Hachiōji to Chigasaki without having to change trains in Hashimoto. On the Keio Sagamihara Line operate numerous local transport, express and express trains, all of which operate or via Chōfu addition to Shinjuku in central Tokyo there on the Toei Shinjuku Line of the Tokyo subway by bound to be. The station is in the center of the eponymous district of Hashimoto and is oriented from northwest to southeast. On the north side of the facility is the station section of JR East with eight tracks, five of which are used for passenger traffic. These are located on a side platform and two central platforms , all of which are covered. There are also three through and sidings. The station building spans over it in the form of a riding station . A Æon supermarket and the mewe Hashimoto shopping center are built on its northern end . A covered walkway (with several shops) leads from the JR station to the Keiō station on the south side of the facility. It is a three-story elevated station with two tracks on two side platforms. The platforms are on the upper level, the platform barriers , access to the JR station and other shops are on the middle level . The roof is supported by the side walls, there are no supporting pillars in between. There is no connection between the JR and Keiō tracks due to different gauges .

In the 2018 fiscal year, an average of 164,974 passengers used the station every day. Of these, 66,136 went to JR East and 98,838 to Keiō Dentetsu.

history

The private railway company Yokohama Tetsudō opened the station on September 23, 1908, together with the entire Yokohama line between Higashi-Kanagawa and Hachiōji . According to the original project, there was actually no stop here, but the planners added it after a petition from local residents. The Railway Authority (later the Ministry of Railways ) leased the line on April 1, 1910 and took it over entirely on October 1, 1917. The station developed into a traffic junction when the Sagami Tetsudō took the Atsugi –Hashimoto section of the Sagami line into operation on April 29, 1931 . On June 1, 1944, the Sagami line also came into state ownership.

In 1980 the Japanese State Railways replaced the station building with the new building that still exists today. On February 1, 1984, it stopped handling goods, and one month later the depot north of the station was shut down . As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR East on April 1, 1987 . The Keiō Dentetsu extended the Keiō Sagamihara line on March 30, 1990 from Tama Center to this point, with which it now opened up the western part of Tama New Town and enabled a direct connection to Shinjuku .

In the near future, its importance as a traffic junction will continue to grow, because a station is being built under Hashimoto on the Chūō-Shinkansen high-speed line from Shinagawa to Nagoya, which is currently under construction . Construction work began in November 2019 on a wasteland immediately south of the train station, on the former site of a high school.
