Since December 2003 it has been almost exclusively a stop on lines S3 and S4 of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn .

Location and facilities

The train station leads to a bridge which Bürgerstraße , which connects the two eponymous neighborhoods of the station together. The bus stop for bus route 33 is on this bridge.

The station also has 25 parking spaces, bicycle parking spaces and barrier-free access.

history

The Rhine Valley Railway , which runs past Kirchheim, was opened by the Baden State Railways on April 10, 1843 with the Heidelberg - Bruchsal - Karlsruhe section . However, initially no train station was planned in Kirchheim. Only on November 1, 1865, Kirchheim received its own train station. The current station building was built in 1914 and is a listed building.

First, the trains from Kirchheim entered the old Heidelberg main station , which was designed as a terminus , via a connecting curve . Urban development problems caused by the partial expansion of Heidelberg main station into a through station in 1862 and the lack of expansion options led to the decision at the beginning of the 20th century to relocate the main station a good kilometer to the west and build it as a through station. The line to the old main station was closed and a line to the new main station was built.

In 2003, as part of the integration of the Rheintalbahn to Karlsruhe into the network of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn, the platforms were upgraded to accommodate the disabled . In this context, the station was renamed Heidelberg-Kirchheim / Rohrbach . The opening of the S-Bahn took place at the regular timetable change 2003/2004 on December 14, 2003, in whose system the station has been integrated ever since.
