history
Kahla station was opened on April 30, 1874 when the Saalbahn went into operation. The station building was similar to that of Camburg train station . The porcelain factory particularly benefited from the railroad. The factory was relocated near it soon after the railway was built. In 1886 it received a siding. In 1883 a centesimal balance was set up. Due to the growing volume of traffic, the platforms, loading tracks and roads were expanded in 1886, 1887 and 1893. After 1907 the two signal boxes were built: the dispatcher signal box Ks and the guard signal box Kn .
After 1960, especially the volume of goods traffic increased rapidly. Large quantities of wood had to be transported for a local sawmill. There were also additional sidings for farms and border troops. Plaster of paris , kaolin and cardboard were delivered for the porcelain factory . The sawmill required empty wagons for shipping sawn timber and wood chips. 25 to 40 truckloads were processed daily in a concrete factory. For this purpose, a locomotive came from Jena to Kahla every day for shunting. Later, a small train locomotive was stationed in Kahla, for which a small locomotive shed was built.
After reunification , the economy collapsed, which had a strong impact on freight traffic in Kahla. The sawmill ceased production and the porcelain factory shrank considerably. The siding of the border troops was closed in 1991. It was already abandoned and abandoned. The operation of the concrete plant also came to an end after a while.
In 1994/95 the Saalbahn was re-electrified. In this context, some renovations were carried out. Three points initially remained in operation for the operation of the concrete plant and were operated from Jena-Göschwitz in a restricted run if necessary . This service also ended in 1995. The last switch remained until 2004. The Kn signal box has been out of service since 1995. Since then, Kahla has only been a stop and a block point .
Two 110-meter-long platforms and a passenger tunnel connecting the two platforms were newly built for the current stop. All remaining tracks were removed. In 2003 a control computer was installed that is remote-controlled from Saalfeld . The signal box Ks was still used to operate the barrier systems until 2003.
The reception building is unused today. It was auctioned in 2013 for 51,000 euros.
