List of train stations in Italy |
The Mals train station ( Stazione di Malles Venosta in Italian ) is the terminus of the Vinschgau Railway in western South Tyrol .
location
The station is located at an altitude of 998 m on the southern outskirts of Mals in the upper Vinschgau between Reschenpass , Ofenpass and Stilfser Joch . The villages of Glurns in the south, Laatsch in the west and Tartsch in the east can also be reached quickly from here. There is a connection to private transport via the SS 40 , which runs close to the train station .
history
Mals train station was opened in 1906 together with the newly built Vinschgau Railway. In 1990 it was shut down like the entire route. After the Vinschgau Railway became the property of the Province of South Tyrol in 1999, the South Tyrolean government decided in 2004 to let the municipality of Mals use the reception building for 30 years. Since the general renovation and reactivation of the Vinschgau Railway in 2005, the station, which now houses a café and bike rental , has been in operation again. As part of the electrification of the railway line, major renovation work began in 2019 at the station, which in particular includes adaptation work on the platforms, the remise and the Tartsch siding, and should be completed in 2020.
Buildings
Operations building
In Mals, the station was realized as a model that differs from the other buildings on the Vinschgau Railway. The reception building designed by Konstantin Ritter von Chabert has six window axes and, apart from a south-eastern extension, is mostly two-story. The gable roof of the two-storey component is interrupted by a transverse gable part with crooked hips . To the southwest of the reception building there is a shed, a water tower and an administration building, and to the southeast is a wooden warehouse on a natural stone plinth.
Track pentagon
After the operation of the Vinschgau Railway was taken over by the Italian army , Ferrovie dello Stato built a pentagon or turning star in Mals in 1930 . This enabled locomotives with tenders to be turned without a turntable . A turning maneuver requires four turns. The track pentagon is still operational after the renovation of the railway line.
function
Mals train station is served by SAD regional trains. In addition, the station was as transfer hubs to SAD and post bus designed -Buslinien.
