List of train stations in Italy |
The Margreid-Kurtatsch train station ( Italian: Stazione di Magrè-Cortaccia ) is located on the Brenner Railway in the south of South Tyrol .
location
The train station is located at a height of 216 m in the middle of the valley floor of the Unterland in the municipality of Margreid , the center of which is about three kilometers to the west. Other villages in the vicinity are Kurtatsch to the north-west, Kurtinig to the south, and Laag in the south-east, on the other side of the Brenner motorway and the Adige river , which passes close to the train station .
history
When the section of the Brenner Railway from Verona through the Adige Valley to Bolzano opened in 1859, there was no stopping point between Salurno station and Neumarkt-Tramin station . At the end of the 19th century, the development of the transport system for agricultural products and the increased number of passengers required an additional train station at Margreid. This could be built on the four to five meter high gravel dam that had been raised in the former marshland when the railway line was being built.
In the 1920s, the reception building was supplemented by a steel and glass porch. Renovation work and the construction of P + R stops took place around 2000 .
Buildings
The reception building is stylistically similar to an elegant country house . It is two-storey, designed with clear symmetry and has a flat hipped roof, which is designed as a triangular gable on a component protruding on the street side. The magazine, which was still in good condition until 2002, was broken off as part of the redesign of the parking lots.
function
Today's Margreid-Kurtatsch station is operationally just a stop . It is served by regional trains from Trenitalia and SAD , which also operate bus connections to the station.
