history
The railway company Hokkaidō Tetsudō opened the station on June 28, 1903, together with the section to Hongō (today Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto ). For four months, Mori was the terminus until the opening of the section to the north to Neppu on November 3, 1903. After the nationalization of Hokkaidō Tetsudō on July 1, 1907, the Railway Office (later the Ministry of Railways ) was responsible. The Oshima Kaigan Tetsudō took a 9.4 km long branch line to Sunahara in operation on December 25, 1927. A little more than 17 years later, the Ministry of Railways took over this line, shut it down and replaced it on January 25, 1945 with the Sawara branch line, which partly ran parallel.
The Japanese State Railways expanded the section between Mori and Ishikura to double track between 1974 and 1979. For reasons of profitability, it stopped handling goods on November 15, 1982, and checked baggage on November 1, 1986. As part of the privatization of the state railway, the station passed into the possession of the new company JR Hokkaido on April 1, 1987 .
