The Muldenberg Station is an operating agency of the Chemnitz-Aue-Adorf railway and of the coastal here stretch of Falkenstein . It is on the cadastre of the Grünbach district of Muldenberg in Vogtland . Since the closure of the line from Schönheide Ost (Chemnitz) in 1995, train traffic has only taken place on the route from Falkenstein to Klingenthal.

history

Commercial building (left) and reception building (right)

Originally, the Chemnitz-Aue-Adorfer Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was already considering the route for the Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf railway , but the station was only laid out when the Falkenstein – Muldenberg railway was built . The station and railway line were opened in 1892. Initially, the station consisted of three platforms and seven tracks, five of which were for the route to Falkenstein and two for the Chemnitz – Aue – Adorf line. Instead of a goods shed, a car body was set up, but the bulk of the freight traffic was made up of timber loading, for which a loading line and a head and side loading ramp were available. The two-and-a-half-storey station building is made of brick, similar to the other station structures in the region.

After the Second World War, a field railway that was used to transport peat ended at the side loading ramp . From 1935 a small locomotive was stationed at the station.

In 1983, travel to Schönheide, which has been the terminus in the direction of Chemnitz / Aue since the route was interrupted in 1975 by the construction of the Eibenstock dam , was discontinued. After 1990, freight traffic fell sharply on individual sections; it has been completely discontinued since January 1, 1995. The previous separation station thus became a through station .

The station, which in its largest extension comprised ten tracks with 17 points, has only existed as a simple crossing station with two points and two tracks since the route renovation in 1997. The Förderverein Westsächsische Eisenbahnen eV (FVWE) is working on reconnecting the route towards Schönheide Süd, which has been used as a museum railway since 2005.

The central platform without passenger protection, which no longer complies with the applicable standards, was only used after 2002 with a special permit from the Federal Railway Authority. After the exemption, which had been extended several times, finally expired on July 1, 2014, the Vogtland transport association canceled the stop because the planned costs for a new platform construction of EUR 300,000 are not economically related to the number of passengers in Muldenberg.

The Vogtland transport association still expects the re-establishment of a tourist stop at Muldenberg station. After the construction of a new central platform between the tracks was rejected as too expensive, a side platform is now being planned. According to a resolution of the association assembly on March 1, 2017, a corresponding planning agreement is to be concluded with DB Station & Service .
