The Musashi-Sakai station ( Japanese 武 蔵 境 駅 , Musashi-Sakai-eki ) is a train station on the Japanese island of Honshū , operated by the railway companies JR East and Seibu Tetsudō . It is located in Tokyo Prefecture in the Koganei City area .

Musashi-Sakai is a connecting station on the JR East operated Chūō high-speed train line from Tokyo via Shinjuku and Hachiōji to Takao , whose tracks in this section are identical to those of the Chūō main line . Here keep Kaisoku - fast trains and Kakueki-Teisha -Nahverkehrszüge what one during rush hour headways results of only two minutes. During the day, nine trains per hour and direction are offered. All other express and express trains run through without stopping. Several trains of the Chūō-Sōbu line go beyond the terminus Mitaka and only turn in Musashi-Koganei . The station is on the border of the districts of Sakai in the north and Kyonanchō in the south on a viaduct . It is oriented from east to west and has four tracks, all of which are used for passenger traffic. The two through tracks on the north side are reserved for trains on the Chūō rapid transit line and the Chūō main line and are located on two fully covered side platforms . Immediately to the south of it is the terminus of the Tamagawa line with two butt- ended tracks on a roofed central platform . West of the station there is a rail link from the Tamagawa line to the Chūō main line. The distribution level of the reception building is located at ground level under the viaduct and is accessible from both sides.

In the 2017 fiscal year, an average of 83,618 passengers used the station every day. Of these, 68,423 were accounted for by JR East and 15,195 by the Seibu Tetsudō.

The private railway company Kōbu Tetsudō opened the station on April 11, 1889, along with the Shinjuku - Tachikawa section of the Chūō main line . At first the station was named Sakai ( ). On October 1, 1906, the Kōbu Tetsudō was nationalized . The Tama Tetsudō , a predecessor company of the Seibu Tetsudō , took the first section of the Tamagawa line leading to Shiraitodai into operation on October 22, 1917 . The station was now a traffic junction and was given its current name on July 1, 1919. In 1921, the Ministry of Railways moved a siding to the Sakai water treatment plant , which was in operation until 1967.

As part of the privatization of the Japanese State Railways , the station went into the possession of the new company JR East on April 1, 1987 , while JR Freight took over the freight traffic. In November 2004, the relocation of both previously ground-level railway lines began on a viaduct. The work in the Seibu station section was completed on December 8, 2006, that in the JR station section on December 5, 2009.
