List of train stations in Japan |
The Tokorozawa Station ( Jap. 所沢駅 , Tokorozawa-eki ) is about 100,000 passengers per day, the largest train station in the Japanese city of Tokorozawa in Saitama Prefecture . It is located about 30 km west of downtown Tokyo and is operated exclusively by the private railway company Seibu Tetsudō . It occupies a special position in its route network, as it is only possible to change from the Shinjuku to the Ikebukuro line and vice versa here.
history
Tokorozawa Station was opened on March 21, 1895 and operated by the Kawagoe Tetsudō ( 川 越 鉄 道 ), a forerunner of Seibu Tetsudō, founded a year earlier . Their route today forms today's Shinjuku line. On April 14, 1915, the Musashino Tetsudō ( 武 蔵 野 鉄 道 ), another forerunner of the Seibu Tetsudō, integrated Tokorozawa into their route network (which roughly corresponds to today's Ikebukuro line), so that the station was now used by two companies at the same time. From 1983 to 1989 serious construction work was carried out to renovate the station building. a. consisted of an extension of the eastern part of the building with another entrance.
From March 2010 to June 2013, construction work for a redesign of the building was carried out again, which is why temporary facilities were used for operation during this time. Since the introduction of station numbers at the Seibu Tetsudō in 2012, the station has been numbered "SI17" (Ikebukuro line) and "SS22" (Shinjuku line). Extensive construction work on the station building began again in August 2016. It is planned to build a five-storey department store ( Depāto ) on the east side by mid-2020 , which will also extend over three storeys over the platform tracks (similar to the The Squaire office building above the Frankfurt am Main airport long-distance train station ). A redesign of the exterior walls and the parking garage is also included in the plan.
Type of construction and tracks
Tokorozawa station is the only way to transfer between the Shinjuku and Ikebukuro lines. The five platform tracks on two central platforms and one outer platform are connected above ground for passengers and numbered in ascending order from north to south. Besides the five platform tracks south there is the fifth track another 6. ( shunting ) railway, which exclusively for maneuvering is used and the station Shin-Akitsu of JR - Musashino Line leads.
