The Voghera train station ( Italian : Stazione di Voghera ) is the train station of the Lombard city ​​of Voghera and an important railway junction. It is operated by the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), an organizational unit of the Ferrovie dello Stato . From 2001 to 2018, the Centostazioni company was responsible for marketing and leasing the retail space .

Geographical location

The station is on the Milan – Genoa and Alessandria – Piacenza lines . The routes were operated by RFI .

The station is located north of the city center and has a total of seven platform tracks. From 1931 to 1966, the local railway station Voghera – Varzi existed next to the FS station .

history

The station was opened in 1858 with the Alessandria – Piacenza line. In 1867 the line to Pavia was added. After electrification , the station was for a long time the border between the AC and DC power grids .

On May 31, 1962, the railway accident at Voghera occurred on platform 3 of the station , with 64 deaths, one of the worst accidents in the history of the railway in Italy . A freight train drove almost unbraked on a passenger train standing in the station .
