The Dortmund-lice station was established in 1876 as a station Wickede-lice on the railway line Welver-Sterkrade between Wickede and isopods opened. The through station was renamed in 1928 after the two places were incorporated into the city of Dortmund . Today, the Wickede-West station of the S4 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn is located at the eastern end of the track field .

history

On May 15, 1876, the Royal Westphalian Railway Company opened the railway line from Welver to Dortmund and the Wickede-Asseln station. There were two waiting rooms in the reception building. At the same time, the Reichspost opened an “Imperial Post Agency” in the station building, which was responsible for both locations. At the end of the 19th century coal production increased in Asseln, so that the works railway, which connected the Hermannshütte in Hörde with the Asseln collieries in Schleswig and Holstein , was extended to Wickede-Asseln station. The station thus had five tracks, which were controlled by two signal boxes, and was the only one on the whole route to have a cattle loading ramp. A railway maintenance depot was also stationed in the station. Passenger traffic was insignificant compared to the loading of coal, which is estimated at up to 160 wagons a day.

In 1923, during the occupation of the Ruhr by France , the station served as a German border station , while the French counterpart was set up in Brackel . Travelers from the unoccupied area spent the time leading up to the border crossing in the waiting room of the train station. The track systems were occasionally so overcrowded with general cargo wagons that permits had to be issued for the wagon access.

With the closure of the mines at the end of the 1920s, the station lost its importance. On October 7, 1928, the station was renamed Dortmund-Asseln to avoid confusion with Wickede (Ruhr) . The station building was demolished in December 1976.

Westfalia Wickede association founded

The founding meeting of the football club BV Westfalia Wickede , which is active today in the Westphalia League, took place according to the club's chronicle "In the waiting room 2nd class of the Wickede-Asseln train station".

Current situation

On June 3, 1984, the S4 S-Bahn of the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn was put into operation, which runs between Dortmund-Dorstfeld and Unna-Königsborn part of the Welver – Sterkrade railway . The Wickede-West station was set up on the site of the station; the platforms are located at the end of the former track field about 300 m east of the old station. In the suburb of Asseln is the Dortmund-Asseln Mitte stop, which was also created during the expansion to the S-Bahn.

Nothing can be seen of the former station building . Next to the two S-Bahn tracks there is a passing track that is connected to the two main tracks via eight switches. The route of the works railway has been dismantled and is used as a dirt road. Houses were built on the north side of the station in 2006 to prevent the view from Bebelstrasse onto the station. On the south side of Bebelstraße there is still a stone wall of the train station, which has been partially demolished and overgrown.
